Openluchtmuseum It Damshûs

Het museum laat de bezoekers op een levendige en actieve manier ervaren hoe laagveenturf werd gemaakt en hoe de veenarbeiders leefden en werkten in de periode van 1863 tot ca. 1920. Hun erbarmelijke werk-, woon- en leefomstandig-heden waren de voedingsbodem voor een felle sociale strijd. Daarnaast wordt een indruk gegeven van de verandering van het landschap als gevolg van de turfwinning. Zo krijgt de bezoeker een totaalbeeld van de sociaal-economische, politieke en landschappelijke geschiedenis van de laagveenderij in Opsterland en Smallingerland met als uitgangspunt Nij Beets.
