Walking route Wekeromse Zand

This hiking trail takes you through the special nature reserve the Wekeromse Zand, one of the last active shifting sand areas in the Netherlands. You walk along open sandy plains, vast heaths and through varied forests. Along the way rolling dunes, old oaks and pines alternate and you pass places where Highland cattle and mouflon graze. The alternation of open space and sheltered paths makes this trail attractive in every season. It is a route that radiates tranquility and gives you the feeling of being away from it all, in the middle of nature.
